Career Coaching

If you feel stuck in your job, are not sure what your next move could be, or lack motivation to explore what’s possible because of burnout and overwhelm, a conversation with a career coach can help you!

What is career coaching?

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

At the core of this definition is the understanding that YOU – the client – are in the driver’s seat. You have the insights and potential to move forward on your career path in a way that makes the most sense to you. You are the one who crafts and owns your professional story. A career coach asks powerful questions to bring your insights out; shares tools and resources to help you act on those insights; and guides, supports, and celebrates you along the way.

How can working with a career coach help me?

Partnering with a career coach can help you:

  • Clarify your career vision: whether you are still exploring options, wanting to switch careers, or preparing to advance in your current space, a coach can help you clarify what your desired path is.

  • Identify your strengths: knowing what value you bring is critical to knowing what your professional story is, the story that communicates how you can help employers solve problems.

  • Craft and practice delivering your professional story: knowing who you are and what you are motivated to do is not enough; you also need to be able to communicate that to potential employers, contacts, and clients.

  • Focus on next steps: identifying the ones you need to work on between coaching sessions as well as the longer-term ones.

  • Provide accountability and support as you go through the steps.

How often and for how long do I meet with a career coach?

Career development is a process, and coaching can take time. Coaches typically work with clients anywhere from 2 to 6 months, but insights could be gained even from a few sessions, depending on how urgently you want to move forward.

As the client, you are in control as to how often you meet with the coach and for how long. You are welcome to continue coaching for as long as it is valuable to you. Some clients may work with a coach until a goal is achieved, then come back later when they want to focus on a new goal.

Again, you are in the driver’s seat!
